Some engagement sessions feel less like a photo shoot and more like a window into a love story—and that’s exactly how it felt spending the morning with Sydney and Nick in their one-of-a-kind historic mud house in Rochester, NY.

Rather than heading to a typical outdoor location, Sydney and Nick invited me into their cozy, character-filled home for a lifestyle session that was as warm and relaxed as the two of them are. Their space is more than just walls and beams—it’s a testament to their shared love of history, storytelling, and quiet moments together.

Every corner had a story, from the weathered textures of the adobe walls to the soft morning light filtering through old glass windows.

The session started with something simple and meaningful: breakfast. They ordered in from their favorite local spot, The Village Bakery. Their candlelit breakfast table was the perfect scene. Capturing them share bites of food and steal glances at each other over coffee felt like stepping into a Sunday morning ritual that had been written into their lives long ago.

After breakfast, they settled in with a crossword puzzle from Roc City Magazine—something they do often and something they’re really good at tackling together. I loved capturing the way they laughed at the clues, the little inside jokes that passed between them, and the comfortable silences that only come with a deep connection.

Sydney and Nick’s session reminded me that engagement photos don’t have to be about perfect poses or far-off locations. Sometimes the most beautiful images come from simply documenting the real, everyday moments that make a relationship feel like home.

Thank you, Sydney and Nick, for sharing your space and your story with me—it was such a joy to photograph this chapter of your life.
